Heading Goes Here

Money, programs, and policies aren’t the only things that fuel real community change.

Volunteers across Northwest Louisiana are powering meaningful community solutions, helping make a lasting difference that impacts many. United Way of Northwest Louisiana volunteer efforts target health, education, financial stability, and essential needs because those are cornerstones of individual and collective success.

See our seasonal and recurring volunteer opportunities below to find an initiative that speaks to you to make a difference locally.

Seasonal Volunteer Opportunities

Literacy League

The Literacy League is a new United Way of Northwest Louisiana initiative seeking eager volunteers who are willing to work with children twice a month on literacy-based activities. Each volunteer will be paired with one child between the ages of 4-7 attending Caddo Heights Math/Science Elementary.

Early Ed Day

Every year in February, United Way of Northwest Louisiana hosts Early Ed Day to gather local policymakers, business leaders, and partners to place a spotlight on the critical and ongoing need to increase and improve access to quality early care and education for children throughout the state. Early Ed Day volunteers will assist with contacting local legislators and inviting them to the local Early Ed Day event. They will also assist with decorating and cleaning up on event day.

Tax Assistance

United Way of Northwest Louisiana’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs offer free basic tax return preparation to qualified individuals. VITA/TCE services are free, and they are a reliable and trusted source for preparing tax returns. Volunteers are needed to assist with preparing returns for the next tax season and are required to take and pass tax law training that meets or exceeds IRS standards.

Administrative

We’re searching for volunteers to help us complete administrative tasks such as scanning documents and organizing office supply closets at our office located at 820 Jordan St., Suite 370, Shreveport, LA 71101.

Snack Pack

Snack packs are a year-round need, making this a year-round volunteer opportunity for individuals and workplaces. Volunteers will create infant or child snack packs by purchasing select items, decorating snack pack bags, writing notes of encouragement, and assembling the bags.

Notes of Encouragement

Notes of encouragement are an easy way to give back to our community by uplifting our youngest students as they prepare to enter kindergarten! This volunteer opportunity is open to individual volunteers and workplaces year-round. Volunteers will write notes of encouragement for our Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library graduates.
