UnitedWay Book Club

A single book can open a child's mind, fuel their curiosity, and set them on the path to success in school and in life. No child should have to wait for that.

Even when the nation Shuts Down... A Child's Imagination Shouldn't

When the government shuts down, it’s more than just offices and paychecks that pause — it’s families, communities, and children who feel the ripple effects. Parents worry. Routines change. Stability fades. Even in times of uncertainty, a child’s need to learn, dream, and grow doesn’t stop.

Right now, 1,300 children in our region are currently waiting to join Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library — a program that delivers a free book every month to children from birth to age five.

These are children whose parents are working hard to keep food on the table and lights on at home; families who may not have the time or resources to make reading a daily routine. Stories matter. A single book can open a child’s mind, fuel curiosity, and prepare them for school and for life. No child should have to wait to begin that journey — not because of where they live, or how much their family earns.

We can’t reach these children without your support. When you give to join the United Way Book Club, it helps remove a child from the waitlist and delivers the gift of imagination straight to their door. Even when the nation shuts down, stories should never stop. A gift of $35 has the power to sponsor a child in the program for one year. Will you give a child the opportunity to open a book and see their world and their possibilities grow?
